CASA Information Meeting
Thursday, February 1st, 2024, 4:30pm to 5:30pm at Blue Sage

CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. CASA volunteers serve as a trusted adult and voice for children that have been removed from their home.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CASA VOLUNTEER? CASA provides a volunteer opportunity that can change not only the life of a child, but will prove to be a life-changing experience for you as well. As many Advocates have said of the children they worked with: "It wasn't about what I gave them, it was what they showed me." With over 1,600 children in the Child Welfare System in Adams & Broomfield Counties alone, there is no better time than NOW to become a CASA Volunteer and Change a Child's Story!
CASA's mission is to provide court-appointed volunteer advocacy for children and youth from the child welfare system so every child can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive.

Active Minds
Thursday, February 1st, 2024, 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Blue Sage
Today's Topic: Automobiles
From the hand cranked Model T that came in any color you want as long as it’s black, to modern cars that have more circuits and chips than most computers, the automobile has a rich and still evolving history. Join Active Minds as we tell the story of the invention that replaced the horse and buggy. Along the way, we'll take a look at mass production, labor, environmental impacts, and the introduction of self-driving cars.
Free to attend; please RSVP below to reserve your spot!
About Active Minds: Active Minds started in 2002 as a series of poetry classes in a church basement in Denver. Before long, it grew to include other courses focusing on contemporary global issues, historical themes, and other matters of importance. The original audience was primarily senior citizens, but over time Active Minds has grown to serve adults of all ages through programming at book stores, libraries, and corporations. Today Active Minds provides programming to over 200 organizations and has over 30 highly qualified instructors on staff. John Henderson and Zane Robertson formed Active Minds out of a deeply felt belief that lifelong learning is central to a life well lived. We are inspired by members of our own families who embodied this spirit and dedicate this work to them.

From the Blue Angels to Hollywood!
Scott Kartvedt watched Top Gun in the theater with his buddies in 1986 and dreamed of being a fighter pilot and landing jets on a carrier. Upon graduation from Pepperdine University, Scott applied to the naval aviator program, was accepted, and began his career flying FA/18 Hornets. In 1999 Scott was selected as a member of the Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, stationed in Pensacola, FL, where he flew air shows for three seasons before returning to the fleet serving 2 tours in Iraq and 2 tours in Afghanistan. Scott led the Navy’s F35 program at the Pentagon in 2011 and was selected as the Navy’s first stealth fighter squadron commanding officer before retiring in 2013.
Today Scott is an instructor and evaluator for United Airlines in Denver, Colorado, and has taken his talents to Hollywood! Scott was a stunt pilot in the blockbuster hit Top Gun Maverick flying in the final scene with Maverick and Rooster, and most recently was the aviation safety supervisor in another Tom Cruise franchise, Mission Impossible 8, scheduled to be released May 2025!
