About Active Minds: Active Minds started in 2002 as a series of poetry classes in a church basement in Denver. Before long, it grew to include other courses focusing on contemporary global issues, historical themes, and other matters of importance. The original audience was primarily senior citizens, but over time Active Minds has grown to serve adults of all ages through programming at bookstores, libraries, and corporations. Today Active Minds provides programming to over 200 organizations and has over 30 highly qualified instructors on staff. John Henderson and Zane Robertson formed Active Minds out of a deeply felt belief that lifelong learning is central to a life well lived. We are inspired by members of our own families who embodied this spirit and dedicate this work to them.

“NO OTHER GODS: The Unrivaled Pursuit of Christ” by Kelly Minter
We often think of idols as ancient graven images or golden calves, but God’s people still battle idolatry every day.  Our idols look more familiar—money, fame, power, work, ministry, and people.  As you identify your modern-day idols and dethrone them, you’ll discover that Jesus can do what no other god can.

o   The study is 8 weeks long and includes a weekly video and class sessions using a study book with daily lessons.
o   Thursdays, September 12—October 31, 2024
o   OR Fridays, September 13—November 1, 2024

Community Blood Drive
Friday, September 13th, 2024, 10am to 2pm at Parking Lot

The American Red Cross declared a national blood emergency on Monday, August 5, noting a shortfall of 19,000 blood donations in the last month causing the blood supply to plummet by 25% since July 1. Now, remnants of Hurricane Debby are complicating efforts to rebuild the supply. We need your help!
Hurricane Debby’s torrential rains are exacerbating the national blood shortage. The storm’s devastating flooding, power outages and travel hazards have forced the cancelation of blood drives in the Southeast, causing hundreds of lifesaving blood products to go uncollected when more donations are so desperately needed.
Please join us to ensure patients across the country receive lifesaving medical treatments.

Every 2 seconds someone in the US needs blood and or platelets. Your donation can help save a life! To learn more about the importance of blood donation visit the Red Cross website!     We are partnering with Vitalant this month to host an HTC Community Blood Drive! Vitalant will bring the Bloodmobile to the parking lot.  Please register below!   10:00 am - 2:00 pm Bloodmobile in the parking lot

Breathwork and Meditation
Friday, September 20th, 2024, 5pm to 6pm at Aerobics Room
Breathwork and Meditation Breathwork and meditation offer myriad benefits tailored specifically for seniors. Through intentional breathing techniques, seniors can enhance lung capacity, improving overall respiratory function and oxygenation of the body. This promotes vitality and energy levels, essential for maintaining an active lifestyle. Additionally, meditation cultivates mental clarity, reducing stress and anxiety commonly experienced in later years. Seniors can find solace in the present moment, fostering a sense of inner peace and emotional well-being. Furthermore, these practices promote better sleep quality, aiding in the management of age-related sleep disturbances. Ultimately, breathwork and meditation empower seniors to embrace aging gracefully, nurturing their physical, mental, and emotional health.   Bio: Lewis Ortiz Hello, my name is Lewis. This September, I’m returning to perform on the patio to bring the best of audience-engaging, familiar songs we all know and remember. Of course, I’ll perform the likes of Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Neil Diamond, Elvis and many others using the likeness of their own voices.  Oh yes, I failed to mention Gordon Lightfoot and John Denver.  Be prepared to sing along with me and remember some of the best music of our generation. I look forward to seeing you on the patio!"
