Stronger Together
Monday, May 1st, 2023, 11am to 1pm at Blue Sage
Stronger Together is a group that focuses on overall health. Whether you want to lose weight, gain weight (yes, some do), maintain your current weight or just feel better overall, this group is for you. We cover topics that help us to understand what might be getting in the way of reaching our life goals.

We look at areas that cover all aspects of health: mental, physical, social and spiritual. There is not a special program for weight management. Instead, each member chooses whatever program/plan that they feel works best. You will not weigh in at the meeting. You might not be interested at all in the weight management journey, but instead, want to focus on your personal life goals. Come join us to see what this group is all about!

OLLI - The Colorado Gold Rush: Chasing the American Dream
Monday, May 1st, 2023, 1:15pm to 2:45pm at Blue Sage
Last Fall we hosted a free introductory OLLI class. The response was HUGE and many residents expressed interest in taking an OLLI course. We are excited to partner with OLLI to bring this opportunity to our HTC community at a discounted rate!

What is OLLI?
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Denver (OLLI at DU) is an adult learning membership program designed for inquiring adults, age 50 and "better," who wish to pursue lifelong learning in a relaxed non-competitive atmosphere. OLLI members and class facilitators exchange ideas, build on their knowledge, and discover new friends. Thanks to the generosity of The Bernard Osher Foundation, OLLI at DU joins a network of more than 120 institutes across the U.S. that are helping older learners find personal fulfillment.

OLLI at HTC
  • $25 registration fee
  • 4-week class April 17 - May 8
  • In-person class led by class facilitator Stuart Gentry
  • Minimum of 12 participants to hold the class - deadline to register is Monday, April 10

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Colorado Gold Rush: Chasing the American Dream

“Pikes Peak or Bust”  With those words, hundreds of thousands of hopeful Americans rushed across the Great Prairie to find their fortunes in the frontier Rocky Mountains. At that time there was no Colorado. The central Rockies were part of the largely-ignored Kansas Territory. But all that changed with the discovery of gold by William “Green” Russell near current-day Denver during the summer of 1858. The Colorado Gold Rush is the story of fortune-hunters, broken dreams, and hard labor.  There were the boom towns that sprang up and disappeared back into the dust in the matter of a few short years. It is also the tale of colorful characters that seem straight out of the Saturday afternoon matinee. Most importantly, the stories from the mines are the story of the creation of the State of Colorado that we know today.

FACILITATOR BIO
Stuart Gentry spent the first 20 years of his professional career in the chemical industry. He then switched directions and became a professor of chemistry at La Salle University in Philadelphia. His passion is for understanding the natural world around us, and how it impacts the people that live within it.

Active Minds
Thursday, May 4th, 2023, 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Blue Sage
This month's topic is Tokyo: Biography of a City
Join Active Minds as we tell the story of the world’s most populous metropolis at 37 million inhabitants. From its roots as a small fishing village in the 15th century, Tokyo has survived a myriad of disasters on its way to becoming one of the most important cities in the world. A truly international city, Tokyo is a hub for global business, Japanese culture, and regional transportation. In addition to Tokyo’s history, we will also take a look at the current and future challenges and opportunities for the city.

About Active Minds:
Active Minds started in 2002 as a series of poetry classes in a church basement in Denver. Before long, it grew to include other courses focusing on contemporary global issues, historical themes, and other matters of importance. The original audience was primarily senior citizens, but over time Active Minds has grown to serve adults of all ages through programming at book stores, libraries, and corporations. Today Active Minds provides programming to over 200 organizations and has over 30 highly qualified instructors on staff. John Henderson and Zane Robertson formed Active Minds out of a deeply felt belief that lifelong learning is central to a life well lived. We are inspired by members of our own families who embodied this spirit and dedicate this work to them.

Stretch Zone
Monday, May 8th, 2023, 2pm to 6pm at Craft Room

  • Monday, May 8 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • 30 minute stretch session is $45
  • Registration required - sign up at the Front Desk!

Why Stretch Zone?

  • Feel Lighter & Younger - Thanks to the modern sedentary lifestyle, starting in your 30s, most people start losing flexibility at an average rate of 1% a year. Strains and micro-stresses on your muscles compounded over time can glue them together. This “glue,” or scar tissue, tightens the surrounding tissue and restrains how you’re able to move. Over time, the snowballing loss of flexibility ages you. Stretch Zone’s isolation of individual muscles within a muscle group breaks up the glue, unwrapping the strangle hold on your posture and valuable energy. Proper stretching slows down the aging process. You can even feel younger by improving posture, circulation, and pain-free full range of motion.

  • Relieve Stiffness & Soreness - Due to sedentary lifestyles and overworked, stressed muscles, people develop resting muscle residual tension, or “tonus.” When you flex a muscle, you create excessive tonus in the muscle. A certain amount of resting muscle tonus is necessary to keep form and posture. But when you have excessive resting tonus, it becomes harder to move. Many people walk around with stiff muscles every hour of the day, and it’s not from the gym. Working with an experienced practitioner you can reestablish a more ideal resting muscle tone, relieving stiffness and soreness.

  • Increase & Maintain Range of Motion - Stretch Zone is not in the business of making people more flexible. Well, not by the traditional definition of flexibility. We’re in the business of reeducating the nerve-muscle reflex, allowing you to move easier. Our goal isn’t making you more “flexible” or “elastic,” but to increase your active range of motion so that you can move further before you even feel a stretch. Stretch Zone works through the nervous system to achieve lasting flexibility gains.

Want to be a part of a new business networking group at HTC? Then the 5280 Referral Network club is for you!

If you own or operate a business, we are dedicated to helping your business grow while also giving back to the
communities we serve! Our unique club will build valuable and productive relationships for you and your business. We do this while being uniquely focused on holding charity events such as car shows, community appreciation events, and offering educational opportunities to our communities, especially including HTC residents.

You may have already seen us last year at the HTC Pool Opening party where we provided trophies, participation certificates and
dash plaques for all HTC residents who showed their cars! We have great plans for HTC events this year!

Our bi-weekly one-hour meetings are held either in the HTC clubhouse or remotely. We do fundraising for charities we support while offering our members’ businesses exposure to the communities they serve. We have decades of experience in a variety of
businesses and are eager to share information with you on how to grow and sustain your business.

Stronger Together
Monday, May 22nd, 2023, 11am to 1pm at Blue Sage

Stronger Together
Monday, May 29th, 2023, 11am to 1pm at Blue Sage
