The Environmental Club is hosting a presentation by Ridwell to learn more about their home recycling program.
Ridwell is a natonal company that is expanding to our area. They specialize in careful and considerate recycling, reuse, and re-purposing of specific items. They pick up their specific items monthly from private homes for a fee. Their service is NOT a replacement for Republic; as Republic will still provide recycling service in HTC for our "normal" recyclable items.
We already pay for recycling through Republic Services. Why pay for more?
- Ridwell collects – from individual homes for a fee – other items that can be reused, recycled or repurposed instead of simply throwing them away. We can reduce the amount of waste going to our overflowing garbage dumps by having these valuable items reused instead.
- Ridwell collects items outside of the “usual” recycling materials of aluminum, glass, paper/cardboard, and some plastics. They have markets and uses for items like household batteries, lightbulbs, thin plastics, and heavily worn clothing (including shoes). They also reuse holiday light strings, corks, and worn-out pet toys.
- They also provide separate collection bags for each type of item.
Ridwell will soon be servicing our vicinity. It is a completely OPTIONAL additional service. They will have a representative to provide a presentation and answer questions at our HTC Clubhouse on Monday, June 19 at 1:15 pm. Maybe we cannot save our planet this year – but we can start reusing a bit more & throwing away a little bit less!
